Love GIF? Try these free applications on your phone.

GIFs make for the funnies and interactive modes of communication in the millennial world. GIFs are now integrated on frequently used messaging apps and keyboards. It’s quite easy to search for GIFs and share them online. However, these in-built features do not let you create Gifs.

If you’re looking for GIF-making apps, then take a look at these. These apps are available for both iOS and Android devices.

Giphy Cam

Giphy Cam comes from the biggest GIF search engine online, GIPHY. This app is available for both iOS and Android platforms. Giphy Cam lets you take videos in looping mode or a continuous one for a long Gif. Giphy Cam comes with loads of stickers and filters to choose from.

These effects are also very millennial-approved and blend well with what’s trending on the internet. In addition to filters and stickers, you can choose among clay faces, accessories, hands, magic wand and overlays. Giphy Cam will surely keep you busy scrolling through multiple editing tools and items.

PicsArt Gif & Sticker Maker

This app is available only for iOS users and is my personal favorite. It has a very simple and easy-to-use UI. Gifs Art lets you capture images in burst mode, and set the speed limit for your GIF. There are effects you can apply to your Gif like fade, noir.

You can also add animated stickers and text to your Gifs. Another feature which is pretty interesting in Gifs Art is ‘Masks’. These are something like moving filters which add something like special effects to your Gifs. Apart from saving the file in Gif format, you can also save it as a live image on your iPhone.

Gif Lab

If you’re looking for a straightforward no-nonsense GIF-making app on App Store, it’s Gif Lab. Here, you can capture images in frames or import one from your smartphone. The only tools for editing available on Gif Lab include stickers and text. Unlike Gifs Art, stickers on Gif Lab are quite simple like a hat, mustache, and glasses. You have options to save the file as Gif or video, and share it on social platforms.

GIF maker, video to GIF, GIF editor

Among the dozens apps, you’ll find on Play Store with the same one, this one does a decent job at creating Gifs. There are basic editing tools such as trim, adjust, reverse, and more. GIF maker also lets you add filters, frames to your videos. In addition to adding stickers and text, you can also draw on your video and make it in a meme format.

Google has officially launched Google Assistant as a standalone app in the iOS app store. Not only did Google announce the app at the I/O developer conference on Wednesday, but it was immediately made available for download. You can get it right here.

Earlier this week there were reports Google may be launching Assistant for iOS in the near future. Needless to say, the reports have been confirmed.

Google Assistant is arguably smarter than iOS’s own virtual assistant Siri, thanks to Google’s machine learning capabilities and its fluid integration with other Google apps.

Users of Google Assistant also have the flexibility of entering queries via voice search or by manually typing them, whereas Siri only recognizes voice commands.

However, Siri has a major advantage over Google Assistant due to the fact it is built in to iOS.

Users can just say “Hey Siri” and begin issuing commands, while the Google Assistant app would have to be manually opened every time. Siri may also be more helpful to you depending on how invested you are in Apple’s ecosystem.

Now that iPhone users can really compare the two virtual assistants side-by-side it will be more apparent which one is most helpful. It will be interesting to see if the new competition will encourage Apple to bring some Siri upgrades to a future iOS update.

At this time it appears Google Assistant is only available in the US app store. The company didn’t mention if or when it would be rolling out to other countries, but it did mention Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Japan would be getting support for Google Home soon. That may also be when the iOS app rolls out to further countries.

5G is the future, so what do you need to know?

Faster, more stable, capable of supporting more devices and equipped to handle life in the fast lane, 5G technology is the next wave of networking, and Apple is deeply involved in testing and developing the standard. What does Apple hope to gain and why should this matter to an iOS enterprise?

What is 5G?

While it is important to note that 5G is not yet ratified as a standard and networks that use the standard aren’t expected before 2020, 5G is touted as the next-generation of wireless broadband.

The GSMA has set some criteria, most of which need to be met for a network to call itself ‘5G’. They include 1-10Gbps connections to devices and other end points and the capacity to support up to 100 times as many devices per cell as possible in current implementations.

To be incredibly simplistic, 5G should be able to download entire movies in second, will enable high-bandwidth computations, such as gaming, and will be capable of supporting the billions of connected devices expected to be in use by 2025.

One more thing: 5G will also be much more stable when used in moving vehicles, such as trains, public transport, and (of course) cars.

What is Apple doing?

Apple recently applied for FCC permission to test a new wireless technology, called millimeter wave. The company intends testing transmissions using the standard between two fixed points in Cupertino and Milpitas, CA. "These assessments will provide engineering data relevant to the operation of devices on wireless carriers’ future 5G networks,” its application said.

That’s not the only way in which Apple is involved in 5G development. Way back in 2014 the company joined the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance, an association of stakeholders from within the industry working to ensure next-gen networks, infrastructure, and devices are compliant.

Light Reading last year reported Apple to be hiring at least one engineer with knowledge and experience of “radar signal processing”, which basically means the signals which are used in millimeter wave. Millimeter wave is the band of spectrum between 30GHz and 300GHz which is ear-marked for use by 5G networks.

Why is Apple doing this?

The reasons for Apple’s interest are pretty obvious: not only must the company ensure its mobile products play nice with the 5G standard once it appears, it also seems likely the company understands the strategic value of gaining an early mover advantage once carrier deployments of 5G make hardware products viable. That means Apple doesn’t need to be first to market, but will want to hit the market soon after 5G is made available in key markets: U.S., China, India, Europe, potentially the UK.

The capacity to handle high bandwidth activity with low latency and support for billions of devices is alluring enough, but stability in moving vehicles has obvious implications.

These 5G stalwarts mean the standard will be able to handle things like mobile virtual and augmented reality services, vehicle-to-vehicle communications systems, and will have pipes plenty big enough to handle the vastly complex data exchange demands of unstructured machine intelligence analytics.

We know Apple has interest in all of these sectors.

(We also know Apple is now working far more closely with Nokia, which holds so much network knowledge).

How does this impact my business?

Consumers should benefit from fast and reliable access to the kinds of services they use their home broadband connection to access today.

It doesn’t end there, of course – they can also look forward to next-generation services (such as mobile VR) and solutions we’ve not imagined yet. Provision of powerful mobile broadband also has implications on the Internet-of-things (IoT), as 5G will provide the capacity to support billions of devices without generating undue interference on existing data traffic.

That’s the consumer: Beyond the opportunity to provide new breeds of next-generation service to consumers, business users should benefit from:

  • Ultra-fast unified communications
  • The capacity to provide truly wireless cloud-based office solutions
  • Opportunities to expand using mobile VR
  • Improvements in business agility – you can use 5G as a primary fixed-line broadband replacement, enabling enterprises to “pop-up” whole offices in response to immediate business need.

However, the enterprise opportunity of 5G isn’t going to manifest itself until full-scale commercial deployments of the standard begin around 2020.

That’s good for IT purchasers looking to extend their Apple deployment, as it means mobile products purchased in the current equipment upgrade cycle (2017-18) will likely be due for replacement by the time the standard appears.

This means those C-class execs will likely get their wish in the form of an iPhone 8 when this ships later this year, as even though Apple is evidently working to develop a 5G iPhone, there’s no need to plan for its appearance… yet.

Apple rolled out the new iOS 10.3 update Monday — and if you took the plunge and upgraded to the new OS, you might have noticed your iPhone is running a bit more quickly and smoothly than it did before.

Categorized in Others

Today Apple has launched iOS 10.3.2 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Apple released five betas of iOS 10.3.2 to developers and the public before rolling out the final version. This update comes a bit over a month since iOS 10.3.1 was released on April 3rd. iOS 10.3.2 is considered a minor point release update containing bug fixes and security improvements for iOS 10.3, which added major features like Find My AirPods, Wi-Fi Calling on iCloud devices with Verizon, a Podcasts app widget, new app animations, an Apple ID Settings menu, weather forecasts in the Maps app, an iCloud storage meter and a complete under-the-hood revamp of the file system.

Between June 5th and June 9th, Apple will be hosting the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) where iOS 11 is expected to be announced. But based on Apple's previous software update schedule, iOS 11 will not be available for download until September 2017 when the new iPhone should be unveiled. iOS 11 is expected to have many new features and enhancements including a new Apple Music user interface with an emphasis on exclusive video programming.

What Is Included In The iOS 10.3.2 Update?

iOS 10.3.2 Software Update

The release notes Apple provided does not contain much information. But the betas of iOS 10.3.2 revealed that third-party VPN apps should now work as expected and some of the SiriKit car commands should be fixed. I will add more details to this article as more information comes up.

The download size of the iOS 10.3.2 update varies based on the device you have. On the iPhone SE, it appears to be between 160-170MB. And it is between 190-200MB on the iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 7 Plus.

You can install iOS 10.3.2 by connecting your device to iTunes or downloading it by going to the Settings app > General > Software Update. The iOS 10.3.2 update is available for the following devices: iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation and later. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are not eligible for this update because the update software is compatible for just 64-bit devices.

macOS, watchOS and tvOS Updates

Apple also released macOS 10.12.5 for Mac computers, watchOS 3.2.2 for the Apple Watch and tvOS 10.2.1 for the Apple TV today, all of which have minor bug fixes as well. The macOS Sierra Update 10.12.5 fixes issues where the audio may stutter while playing through USB headphones and support was added for the media-free installation of Windows 10 Creator Update using Boot Camp. The previous updates for watchOS and macOS had notable features like Theater Mode (Apple Watch) and Night Shift (Mac).

You can update the Apple Watch on a connected iPhone while the smartwatch is on the charger with over 50% battery remaining. macOS 10.12.5 is available as a download on the Mac App Store. And you can update the Apple TV through the System menu and tapping on the Software Update.

Do you plan to update to iOS 10.3.2 right away? Are there any problems you are having with iOS? Please leave a comment with your thoughts!

There's no denying that in this day and age, most people rely on portable devices, particularly in running a few errands. As such, battery life of a device can be critical for many individuals.

While one can find quite a few high-end devices in the market, including Apple devices, touting impressive battery capacity, many customers, however, still want to maximize the battery life and lifespan of these gadgets, so they are able to do more with them.

Tech Times reported about Apple's Vice President of software engineering Craig Federighi confirming that force quitting apps does not aid in preserving the battery life of iPhones.

When an iPhone user asked Apple boss Tim Cook in an email if quitting the "iOS multitasking apps frequently" is beneficial to prevent a dead battery, Federighi replied with a concise "no and no" response.

Apple itself has devoted a page laying out a few tips to improve the battery life and battery lifespan of iPhone, iPad and other iDevices.

In its post, Apple defines battery life as the amount of time the device runs before the user needs to recharge it. Battery lifespan, in the meantime, pertains to the amount of time the battery lasts until it needs a replacement.

"Maximize both and you'll get the most out of your Apple devices, no matter which ones you own," it says.

Without further ado, here are a few tips from Apple that may significantly enhance your iDevice's battery life. These tips are not as tough as you think.

Update Your iDevice To The Latest Software

Whether you own an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iPod Touch, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, updating your device to the latest version of OS X, iOS or watchOS will do the trick. The software updates are packed with advanced energy-saving technologies, so always ensure that your device runs the most recent version.

If you own an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, for instance, you can update your device into the latest software by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.

Avoid Exposing Your iDevice To High Temperatures

Refrain from exposing your device to temperatures higher than 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid damaging its battery capacity. Charging the device and storing it at high temperatures can damage it even more.

Remove The Device’s Case When Charging

Make sure to remove the style case of your device when you are charging it as it may generate excess heat. The heat can have an effect on its battery capacity. When you observe that your device gets hot, you have to take it out from its case.

Charge It Around 50 Percent When Storing The Device

If you would like to keep your device for a long time, you must have it half-charged. Once you store the device fully charged long term, this leads to your device having a shorter battery life. In contrast, whenever you store it fully discharged, the battery could result in a deep discharge state. On top of that, you should also keep it in a moisture-free, cool environment that’s lower than 32 degrees Celsius or 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

If, however, you intend to use the device after keeping it for some time, you may need to charge it for 20 minutes with the original adapter prior to using it.

Optimize Your iDevice’s Settings

The following techniques are surefire ways in optimizing the device’s battery life:

1. Adjust the brightness of your screen. You have to enable the auto-brightness of your device or dim its screen.

2. Make use of Wi-Fi rather than a cellular network when accessing data on your iPhone or iPad, since Wi-Fi connection consumes lesser power as opposed to the latter.

For your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, in the meantime, you have to turn off your Wi-Fi when you are not using it, as it eats up power. It may also help if you quit apps and disconnect peripherals that are not in use. Ejecting an SD card on your laptop can likewise help save your laptop's battery life.

Activate Your Device’s Low Power Mode

The Low Power Mode is a handy feature introduced with iOS 9. When your iPhone, for instance, goes down to 20 percent and 10 percent, it will allow you to enable this feature with only one tap. You can also manually configure it by heading over to Settings > Battery.

Activating the Low Power Mode of the device will significantly lessen its brightness, reduces the system animations and optimizes its performance. This will instantly be switched off when you recharge your phone.

Check Out Your Battery Usage

You are able to analyze your battery usage by going to Settings > Battery.

Moreover, you can further optimize your device’s battery life by carrying out these strategies:

1. Disable the feature allowing apps to refresh in the background by heading to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

2. Turn off a particular app’s Location Services by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

3. Disable your push notifications on a particular app by going to Settings > Notifications. Hit the app and switch it off.

4. Switching on the Airplane mode can also help big in maximizing the battery life of your device when you are in an area with low or without cell coverage.

Don’t Charge The Device To A Computer That’s Turned Off

If you want to charge your iDevice to a computer via a USB, you need to make certain that the laptop or desktop isn’t turned off or set in a standby or sleep mode. This way, you can prevent the device’s battery from draining.

There you have it: the quick and easy tips to boost the battery life and battery lifespan of your iOS device.

Installing Tor on Android and iOS devices is not as difficult as you may think.

You can safeguard your online privacy when you are using an Android or iOS device to browse the internet by using TOR. TOR hides and occasionally changes your IP address when you are online. Thus, when you are using TOR on either of these devices, your privacy and identity will be safe when you visit social media sites or any other sites on the internet. Here is a detailed guide on how you can successfully install TOR on your Android or IOS device.

How to install TOR on an Android Device

1: Download Orbot

You will have to download Orbot from any the credible app stores available. You can download it from Google PlayAmazon App Store or even from the website of the developer, which is the Guardian Project.

2: Install Orbot on your device

It is easy to install Orbot on your Android device, thanks to its highly intuitive installation wizard. Here is how the setup wizard looks like at first glance when you are just about to start the actual process of installing Orbot on your Android device

TOR Install (1)

3: Select the features you would like to run via Orbot

If your device is rooted, you will have to choose the particular applications you would like to access via Orbot. The process of selecting the apps that you would like to use via Orbot is simple and straightforward. However, if your device is not rooted, you may skip this step of the process by choosing the option that lets you proxy all the apps on your device through TOR.

4: Give Orbot Superuser access for rooted devices

If your Android device is rooted, you will have to give Orbot super user access for you to proceed with the installation process. Granting the app superuser access at all times ensures that you will be able to use Orbot when you are opening any app on your rooted Android device at any time.

This is how the screenshot for the stage when you have to grant Orbot superuser status to the apps on your Android device looks like.

5: Reboot your device

You will have to reboot your device at this stage of the installation process to allow Orbot to access all the apps on your device. If you attempt to open your mobile browser at this stage, it is likely that the browser may not function as desired. Therefore you may have to restart your device at this stage of the installation process.

6: Check your IP address

TOR Install (3)

Once you have reset your device, you will have to visit any website that checks your IP address. The purpose of this activity is to confirm that your traffic is getting re-routed via a proxy server and that you have a different IP address from your original one. If the Orbot installation process has been successful, you will get a different IP address. Here is a screenshot of how things should appear at this stage of the process.

6: Make configuration for some applications

You may have to configure some apps on your mobile device for you to use Orbot successfully. In this case, you may have to go to the ‘settings’ section of every particular app you would like to configure and make the necessary changes.

For some apps, you may have to download and install particular add-ons for you to use the apps on Orbot successfully.

7: Start using your device

Once you have successfully gone through the five steps that have been outlined above, you will be able to use TOR for your Android device. One important thing you need to note is that TOR will change your IP address at times. The occasional changes to your IP address are essential in making you anonymous online. Here is a screenshot of how things look like when you check your IP address once you complete the process of installing TOR on your Android device.

How to install TOR on an IOS Device

The procedure of installing TOR on your IOS device is similar to that of when you are installing the app on your Android device. However, there are slight variations that you have to keep in mind when installing TOR on your iOS device. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can set up TOR on your iOS device so you may enjoy the level of anonymity and online privacy that TOR offers to its users.

1: Download the TOR browser from Apple App Store

You will have to visit the App Store on your iOS device as the first step of the process. Once you access the app store, you may have to search for the TOR browser. You will see a list of alternatives. Choose the TOR-enabled browser that suits your needs. Here is a screenshot of what you should have when you are just about to tap on the ‘Get it’ button on the app store.

Remember that you may have to buy some apps from the Apple App store.

2: Install the app on your device

Once you successfully download the TOR app, you will see a button asking you to install it on your device. You will have to tap on the button to allow the installation process to commence. Remember that it is at this stage that the highly technical aspects of setting up TOR on your iOS device begin.

The installation process takes a few minutes. Here is a screenshot of what you are supposed to have on your device just before you tap the ‘install’ button.

3: Connect to TOR

Once you have successfully downloaded and installed TOR on your iOS device, the device will prompt you to connect to the TOR network. You will have to select this option to enable the TOR browser to start working on your device.

Remember that this stage is similar to that of installing TOR on your Android device during which you have to reconfigure some apps so that they work on TOR. Similarly, you may have to select to use the TOR app on particular apps on your iPhone device. However, the good news is that the process is straightforward.

4: Start using TOR to browse

Once you have successfully gone through the steps that have been outlined here, you will be ready to use TOR when browsing the internet on your iOS device. TOR helps to safeguard your online privacy by changing your IP address. As it is the case with installing TOR on your Android device, you may find it necessary to check if the installation has been successful by testing your IP address. If the installation has been successful, you will realize that you have an IP address that is different from the previous one.

In conclusion, it is easy to install the TOR app on your Android as well as an iOS device. The most important things you need to keep in mind are that you may have to reconfigure some apps on your device to make them compatible with TOR. Also, in the case of Android devices, the level of complexity of the process largely depends on whether your device is rooted or not.

Back in February, we learned from a security researcher that various iOS apps can secretly leak login data and other personal information to hackers that know how iOS works, and how to take advantage of various flaws. Three months later, it looks like many of these apps, including mobile banking applications, have not been fixed.

Sudo Security Group Will Strafach explained that no less than 76 apps were susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks, including banking and medical apps. Hackers could fool these apps into leaking a user’s login details, without the user knowing.

You’d think app developers would go ahead and fix their apps following the notice. It turns out some of them have done so, including HipChat and Foxit. But ZDNet reports that many others haven’t taken action.

@chronic
minor update: more of these are fixed now, such as Atlassian HipChat for iOS (CVE-2017-8058) and Foxit PDF Reader for iOS (CVE-2017-8059) https://twitter.com/chronic/status/828724931773026305 …

The majority of the apps that can leak user data will still expose login info have not been fixed, including banking apps Emirates NBD, 21st Century Insurance, Think Mutual Bank, and Space Coast Credit Union, to name just a few.

Other apps including private web browser Dolphin Web Browser, blood glucose level Diabetes in Check, and an app that allows Indiana residents to vote are still affected by the hack.

There’s no indication anyone is abusing this iOS security flaw, but that’s not a good excuse for any app developer not to fix the issues. If you still have to use any of this apps, Strafach advises to avoid Wi-Fi networks and use your cellular plan instead.

Security researcher Gal Beniamini — who works for Google’s Project Zero — recently unearthed a serious vulnerability affecting the Wi-Fi chipsets used in both iOS and Android devices. Detailing the proof-of-concept attack at length, Beniamini explains in an interesting blogpost how an attacker within range on a shared Wi-Fi network could potentially execute arbitrary code on a targeted device.

By chaining together a pair of exploits, Beniamini managed to demonstrate a “full device takeover by Wi-Fi proximity alone, requiring no user interaction.” The attack was deemed to be serious enough that Apple wasted no time in patching up the vulnerability, having released iOS 10.3.1 earlier in the week.

Apple’s release note for the iOS update reads:

Impact: An attacker within range may be able to execute arbitrary code on the Wi-Fi chipDescription: A stack buffer overflow was addressed through improved input validation.

Google, meanwhile, is obviously aware of the vulnerability but a security patch for Android devices isn’t yet widely available. As ArsTechnica notes, “the fix is available only to a select number of device models, and even then it can take two weeks or more to be available as an over-the-air update to those who are eligible.”

There haven’t been any reports of a device, iOS or Android, being compromised but you’ll want to upgrade your mobile OS as soon you can. As a final point of interest, the vulnerability impacts all iPhones models since the iPhone 4s, a number of Nexus smartphones and most of Samsung’s Galaxy lineup.
