US – Renowned KPCB partner Mary Meeker has delivered her 2016 internet report – viewed by many as the tech report to read – which makes uncomfortable reading for Apple and points to increasing use of video and voice.


Every year Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers ( KPCB )partner, Mary Meeker, delivers a deck of more than 200 slides which gives one of the most comprehensive and respected insights and analysis of the internet and tech trends globally.


Key findings:


Global internet users are three billion and growth is flat, 9% year-on-year but decelerating if you exclude India. India surpassed the US to become the number two market for internet users behind China in 2016

Global smartphone growth is slowing, number of users up 21% vs. 31% in 2015. Global smartphone shipments are slowing dramatically – 10% vs. 28% previous year
Android smartphones continue to gain market share vs. iOS
Average mobile user has 33 apps, 12 used daily and 80% of time spent on three

Mobile voice assistant use growing quickly with improvement in tech driving that change. Google on Android now seeing 20% of searches from voice
Generation Z ( up to 20 years old ) communicates with images. User shared video on SnapChat and Facebook growing fast

Messaging is growing rapidly and dominated by Facebook and WeChat and evolving from simple conversation to greater expression.
