The Slaight Family Centre is a donor funded clinical research program for youth in transition, who are at-risk for, or at early stages of severe mental illness. The main goal of the Slaight Family Centre is to put more young people with severe mental illness on a path to recovery, through the development of new treatments, enhancement of early detection efforts, and clinical brain research. As part of the core team, the Research Assistant I will provide support and assistance to the Director and Manager.

Reporting to the Director and Research Manager of the Slaight Family Centre, the Research Assistant I position requires data entry skills; including coding, data entry and working with databases ensuring that accuracy and data quality is maintained. Within these functions, you will also assist with creating, maintaining and auditing subject Clinical Record Forms (CRF) for completeness; scheduling human subject interviews; escorting subjects for MRI and blood work and pre-screening and assisting subjects with completion of basic questionnaires. The incumbent will also have administrative duties pertaining to the research, such as, database maintenance; searching electronic research resources and preparing data for presentations, conferences, meetings; and assisting with REB submissions and grant applications. You will provide regular updates to the Director and Research Manager and will provide support to the team in other research related duties. The candidate must be able to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment. This position is located at the 250 College Street site.


  • The successful candidate must possess a minimum of secondary school education and/or special courses.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are working towards a college diploma or university degree in a social science or health related field

  • The successful candidate will be detail oriented with demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to produce high quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines and requirements.
  • Other preferred skills include the ability to work in a team environment as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
