Description

The Research Data Analyst is responsible for the querying, summarization and dissemination of research data. The position requires working with staff in clinical service lines and other hospital departments to provide timely and accurate datasets to researchers. Strong data skills, including relational database management, proficiency with SAS, MS Excel, and SQL programming are required

 

Responsibilities: 


Data Reporting 
• Reviews research project ideas, evaluates feasibility, and identifies methodological challenges; provides recommendations for improvement if needed. 
• Designs and develops research datasets for biostatisticians and/or other analysts according to study specifications (e.g., collapse encounter-level data to person-level ). 
• Summarizes datasets and develops data dictionaries in accordance with study protocol. 
• Maintains knowledge of appropriate software and programming tools, including SAS, SQL, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, Crystal Reports and mapping software. 

 

Information Assurance 
• Assists in the assurance of information integrity by researching, troubleshooting, and documenting data anomalies or errors; develops workarounds when possible. 
• Stays abreast of data nuances and communicates impact and limitations to researchers. 
• Works directly with Information Services on data integrity issues and optimal methods of secure data transmission. 
• Maintains strict adherence to all IRB and HIPAA rules and regulations regarding the confidentiality of patient information. 

Project Management 
• Participates in definition of scope and development methodology for research requests. Once developed, queries required data and presents it to requesting client in user-requested format. 

Teamwork, Collaboration, Professionalism and Leadership 
• Works with other DRC and Hospital staff in functional and cross-functional teams to meet goals, objectives and responsibilities. 
• Fosters working relationships with representatives of external agencies (ex. Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio Department of Medicaid..etc) in the region and state. 
• Develops and maintains technical and professional skill levels. 
• Maintains a professional demeanor in conducting job duties and accepts responsibility for performance. 
• Provides training to other DRC and hospital staff members in area of specialty. 

Agreement
Qualifications

  • One to three years of academic and/or professional experience in data/statistical analysis (health care setting preferred). 
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent experience required; Master’s preferred. Possible fields of study include Public Health, Hospital/Health Administration, Business Administration, Planning, Statistics, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Actuary Science or other related field. 

Preferred Skills
  • Strong skills in research methodology, data management, SAS, SQL programming, and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Familiarity with hospital classification systems (including ICD, CPT, MSDRG, APRDRG) as well as experience using medical terminology. 
  • Analytical skills to assemble, evaluate and understand large and complex information sets, and to identify current and future trends. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with external contacts, administrators, medical staff, and employees at all levels. 
  • Epic Clarity Certification in Inpatient or Ambulatory data model is preferred.
